Hey, everyone! I justed wanted to update you on where we stand electorally. I don't think you'll want to miss this! :-D
- Barack Obama looks to win the popular vote 52.4% to 46.1% and the electoral vote 365-173. Nebraska's 2nd Congressional District, North Carolina, Indiana, Florida, Ohio, Virginia, Colorado, Iowa, Nevada, and New Mexico have all flipped from red to blue. No state went from blue to red. Missouri currently looks to be going VERY narrowly for McCain, but as provisional votes are still being counted and a recount quite likely to happen, there's still a possibility Obama may win here as well.
- Democrats look to pick up at least six more Senate seats with three more seats still too close to call. Graduated All-Star Mark Udall won in Colorado while All-Stars Jeff Merkley in Oregon, Jeanne Shaheen in New Hampshire, and Kay Hagan in North Carolina all won & are headed to the Senate. Meanwhile, C4O All-Star Jim Martin in Georgia is going to a run-off election next month as C4O Rising Star Al Franken in Minnesota may still win as provisional votes are being counted and a mandatory recount looms ahead.
- In the House, Democrats have so far gained a net twenty seats with six seats still too close to call. C4O All-Stars Dina Titus (NV-03), Martin Heinrich (NM-01), Betsy Markey (CO-04), Ann Kirkpatrick (AZ-01), John Boccieri (OH-16), Debbie Halvorson (IL-11), Gary Peters (MI-09), and Suzanne Kosmas (FL-24) have all won & are on their way to Capitol Hill. Meanwhile, C4O Rising Stars Glenn Nye (VA-02) and Eric Massa (NY-29) have also won and are both on their way to Congress. So far, it's still too close to call for C4O All-Stars Mary Jo Kilroy (OH-15) & Charlie Brown (CA-04) as provisional ballots and likely recounts may still change the outcome.
So are you excited about the change that's coming to Washington? I know I am! So congrats, everyone! WE WON! :-D

Senate Report: Our Rising Stars... REALLY!
Take a look at the new Research 2000 polls up at the top of Daily Kos! Isn't this amazing?

On Expanding the Map
I'm sure we've all heard about all the buzz on "expanding the map". Democrats may finally be able to do it this fall. We have enough winnable Congressional races and enough new swing states to build a stronger Democratic majority.
So can we do it? Only if we make it happen...
Obama is competing in states that Democrats have never really thought about winning before.
Obviously, the Obama campaign is doing a whole lot to expand the map and turn more red states blue. But as we've seen lately, the Republicans will not make it easy for us. They'll throw whatever mud they have at us to try to achieve a third Bush term.We need to ensure our Democrats have what it takes to keep fighting... And keep winning!
We also need to understand that how we win in these new swing states may be different from how we're used to winning traditional "blue states". I may not agree with Senator Ken Salazar (D-CO) on everything, but I understand that he & other Mountain West Democrats needs to address issues in a different way (not necessarily be more conservative, but frame issues differently) in order to win. I may not always understand why Southern Democrats do what they do, but I know they also need to address issues differently in order to win. So if we see Barack Obama & Democratic Congressional candidates in these swing districts speak differently from how we're used to seeing our "Solid Blue" Dems speak, we need not freak out.
But still, all these Democrats in all these areas share the same values we do. Like us, they want real solutions to the climate & energy crisis. Like us, they want our troops home from Iraq as soon as possible. Like us, they want real health care solutions. And like us, they want an economy that works for all of us working people again.
We have a unique opportunity now, in 2008. Americans are tired of the same old Bush-Cheney garbage. Americans want real change. This is our time, and we have to take advantage of it now.
I know we're all freaking out over daily racking polls & VP picks & convention buzz right now. But hopefully, we'll all remember to do what's necessary to help Democrats win. We can't afford to miss this opportunity. Let's build a stronger majority today!

For Hillary

Sometimes, I still feel disappointed about this election. Sometimes, I keep asking myself "Where's Hillary?" Sometimes, I become frightened at the thought of Democrats losing. Sometimes, I still wish I could see Hillary back on the campaign trail again.
Sometimes, I wonder what the hell I'm doing now. But you know what? I just can't keep looking back. I can't let Hillary down now.
After all that I did for Hillary, how can say no to her now? That's what keeps me going. That's what continues to prod me forward. That's what keeps me pushing for Democrats.
Hillary has done so much for us. She proved to me that no one can hold us back. She taught us that yes, we can pursue our dreams. She showed us that with hard work and true grit, we can accomplish anything.
So why am I freaking out over a couple of lousy polls for Barack Obama? Why am I allowing the Rethuglican hacks to scare me into submission again? Why must I worry myself into complete depression when John McBush still can't build up a lead? While this latest rough patch has taught me not to become to complacent in "likely victory", there's also no reason for me to commit suicide over this.
After all, Hillary keeps fighting for us... Even when all the pundits & DC insiders count her out. And if she can keep working for a Democratic victory this fall, so can I. If she can continue fighting, so can I.
There's far too much at stake for us to lose. We desperately need a Democrat in the White House to right Bush's wrongs. Oh yes, and we need a Democratic Congress to help President Obama do that.
When I was in Nevada this past January campaigning for Hillary, I had the time of my life. One of my best memories from that trip was seeing Hillary in person for the first time at a campaign event in the Las Vegas suburb of Henderson. I was amazed by her intelligence, her wit, her beauty, and her grace. But you know who also amazed me? I also remember seeing a state senator by the name of Dina Titus impress me with her breadth of knowledge on Nevada issues along with her warm, soulful personality. I was excited when I later found out that Dina Titus is now running for Congress, and I couldn't help but to make sure I was of help to her.
When I was starring to become depressed about the state of the Presidetial Race in May, I found a new cause to enthusiastically jump into. Like Hillary, Huntington Beach Mayor Debbie Cook is another strong woman who doesn't stop fighting when the going gets tough. I've been able to witness her commitment to environmental justice here in Orange County, CA, and we'll all be well served to have people like Debbie serve us in Congress. I'm sure that would make Hillary smile.
So this is why I keep fighting. This is why I keep working so damn hard for Democrats. I want to see more people like Hillary take office and fight for us. If she won't ever give up on us, let's not give up on her and the causes she believes in.
Let's not give up now. Let's keep fighting. We can stay strong. If Hillary can do it, so can we. :-)

I've Said It Before & I'll Say It Again

I think you all know what I'm about to say. So often, we forget as we become excited about ending the eight year long Bush-Cheney nightmare currently haunting the White House. We forget about how Bush & Cheney have been able to get whatever they want. We forget about how they've been able to avoid any kind of accountability. We forget about the 535 people who can make a HUGE difference in changing course from Bush-Cheney and helping President Obama forge a new & better path for this nation.
I think you now know what needs to be said... Now don't you?
President Obama is NOT enough! While you all know I'm as excited about the Presidential election as all of you are, I also know that we can't stop with the White House. If we want a more progressive government, we also need more & better Democrats in Congress!
Remember that as long as Republicans control at least 41 Senate seats & a significant chunk of House seats, they can obstruct the Democratic agenda. Why do you think House Speaker Nancy Pelosi & Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid have been unable to do much of anything lately? The Republicans currently have enough votes in both houses of Congress to obstruct whatever Pelosi & Reid try to do. And when we combine the present strength of the Republicans with the number of moderate or conservative "Blue Dog Democrats" that sometimes break away from the rest of the party on key social, economic, and/or foreign policy issues, we have a recipe for complete & ugly stalemate.
If you care about a smart & sane energy future that benefits our people & our planet, please send more & better Democrats to Congress. If you want and end to Bush's Iraq occupation as well as a new commitment to real global cooperation, please send more & better Democrats to Congress. If you prefer to see real progress on advancing civil rights for all, please send more & better Democrats to Congress. If you can't wait to see the dream of universal health care become reality, please send more & better Democrats to Congress. And if you'd like to see an end to the Republican war on the poor & middle class, please send more & better Democrats to Congress!
Come on now. We can't wait. We
can't hesitate. Labor Day has not even arrived yet, and the GOP is already tossing its ugliest dirt our way. We need to make sure our Democrats have enough resources to continue fighting the good fight... And ultimately win this fall!
Please join with us in supporting these awesome Democrats today! Let's make sure we have more & better Democrats in Congress. Let's make sure President Obama won't be alone in delivering change we can believe in. :-)

Our Rising Stars

In case you haven't noticed, we have something new up at C4O. We wanted to start this because all of you gave us so many good suggestions, but we couldn't fit them all onto one page. That's why we're doing something that will hopefully enable us to give the Rethuglicans a real run for their money.
Want to see what I'm talking about?
This is our brand new C4O Rising Stars project! As you all already know, 2008 is a horrible year to be a CReep. Bush & Cheney are at historic lows of approval. John McBush thinks he can win by being just like Bush. And now, all these House & Senate GOP candidates are trying to "break ties" to the top of the ticket while still accepting whatever help they can get from them. This is why I think it's time for us to take additional action.
We have many great Rising Star Democrats who may now be seen as "hopeless", but we know this is just plain wrong. These candidates already have the GOP running scared, and they're already making a whole lot of progress in turning red seats blue. Let's help these rising stars make it all the way to DC!
We've listened to your suggestions, and with your help we've picked some great Democrats from all over the country. We have House candidates and Senate candidates. We have candidates from coast to coast, from the Wild West to the Deep South to the Great Midwest. What these candidates have in common is their success so far in making the Republicans run scared and their ability to win these supposedly "difficult races".
So please if you can, donate to help us in this cause. These are true progressive heroes who are taking the good fight onto GOP turf. And with our help, these good Democrats can win! :-)

CA-44: What’s Cheney Doing at “Nixonland”?

In case you missed it, something really frightening is coming to Orange County this week. Believe it or not, The Lord of Darkness (aka Dick Cheney) will be coming to here to raise some money for a good friend of his. He’ll apparently be holding a fundraiser at Richard Nixon’s beloved Casa Pacifica (how fitting!) in San Clemente for CA-44’s own Ken Calvert.
Scared yet? I guess the GOP is. I mean, really… They’re bringing in the only person in DC more unpopular than Dubya himself? And this is supposed to attract big $$$$ for Calvert? Oh my, the GOP is in hard times!
Well, we Democrats need not be. We’re making big gains in the 44th District. The partisan gap is narrowing fast, and we’re blessed to have a terrific candidate in Bill Hedrick. Unlike Calvert, Hedrick isn’t a Bush-Cheney acolyte. And unlike Calvert, Hedrick won’t put personal profit over the best interest of the people of the 44th District.
Calvert may have Bush & Cheney on his side, but Hedrick has us… All of us! Let’s show the GOP big wigs that our people power beats their dirty money.
