The New York Times goes a long way to answer the questions we have on how involved President-Elect Barack Obama was in IL Gov. Rod Blagojevich's "Pay to Play" scandal. Here's a good example of how Obama was a part of the action.
Mr. Obama used leverage that he had seldom employed - publicly, anyway - and strongly urged Mr. Jones to bypass Mr. Blagojevich and approve the ethics bill, banning the so-called pay-for-play system of influence peddling in Illinois. When asked at the time how Mr. Obama had come to be involved, Mr. Jones replied, "He's a friend."
When the Illinois Senate passed the measure by 55 to 0 on Sept. 22, with Mr. Jones reversing his position, Mr. Obama praised the move as one creating "a tougher ethics law that will reduce the influence of money over our state's political process." Mr. Obama's intervention deepened a rift between him and Mr. Blagojevich that had been growing for some time.
So does this now explain why Blagojevich called Obama a "motherf*cker" for not paying to play Blago's game? It does for me. Obama actually took a little time off the campaign trail in late September to line up the votes to pass the historic ethics legislation that proved to be Blago's downfall.
So will the Republicans stop telling lies about "Barky Hussein Soetoro's trail of corruption"? Obama actually worked to stop the corruption! If anything, we should thank the President-Elect for putting an end to this mess in Illinois & hope that he can do the same in DC!
Nevada Rethuglicans look to be in a tailspin! Their one possibly legitimate challenger to Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid looks like he's about to be indicted for mishandling state college savings funds. And they want to complain about supposed "Democratic corruption"? What about the rot plaguing their own house?
John McCain seems to have a history of hanging out with the wrong crowd. Think about it. His chief economic adviser, Phil "Don't Have a Mental Recession About My Deregulation Screwing You Over, You Nation of Whiners!" Gramm. His campaign manager, Rick "The Corporate Lobbyist" Davis. In fact, his entire campaign run by corporate lobbyists! And how can we forget his running mate, Sarah Palin, and her cynically hypocritical "clean state house" in Alaska full of corruption and secrecy?
Our economy is in peril. We need a President who will be ready & able to do what's necessary to make our economy work for working people again. We can't afford another President who puts the wants of his corporate buddies above the needs of working families.
So why should we take a serious risk with John McCain?
I'm really starting to think that one of the reasons why McCain pulled his wild "suspension" stunt yesterday was to make sure the media wouldn't pay more attention to this. Seriously, think about it. If your campaign manager was revealed to be a corporate lobbyist who was STILL being paid for his work for two failed mortgage giants that you're trying to blame your opponent for killing, wouldn't you try something to distract?
Since 2006, the federally sponsored mortgage giant Freddie Mac has paid at least $345,000 to the lobbying and consulting firm of John McCain's campaign manager Rick Davis, according to two sources familiar with the arrangement.
Freddie Mac had previously paid an advocacy group run by Davis, called the Homeownership Alliance, $30,000 a month until the end 2005, when that group was dissolved. That relationship was the subject of a New York Times story Monday, which drew angry denunciations from the McCain campaign. McCain and his aides have vehemently objected to suggestions that Davis has ties to Freddie Macan especially sensitive issue given that the Republican presidential candidate has blamed "the lobbyists, politicians and bureaucrats" for the mortgage crisis that recently prompted the Bush administration to take over both Freddie Mac and its companion, Fannie Mae, and put them under federal conservatorship.
But neither the Times storynor the McCain campaignrevealed that Davis's lobbying firm, Davis Manafort, based in Washington, D.C., continued to receive $15,000 a month from Freddie Mac until last monthlong after the Homeownership Alliance had been terminated.
Whoops! And McBush the McLiar still wants to say that "Barack Obama is responsible for the Fannie-Freddie Meltdown" because he once spoke with a Fannie Mae executive three years ago for a whole of TEN MINUTES?! Again, is there any reason to believe McBush on ANYTHING??!!
Remember how John McCain was saying that Barack Obama was somehow responsible for the financial crisis because he once met with someone from Fannie Mae for less than ten minutes several years ago? Even though this allegation makes absolutely no sense, there may be a method to McCain's madness. After all, the McCain campaign manager used to lobby for Fannie Mae & Freddie Mac!
My goodness, here they go again with another KKKarl Rove campaign tactic! Hopefully, American voters are smarter than that now.
Apparently, the Rethuglicans are trying to spin away the recent McCain-Palin scandals as "partisan Democrat trickery"... Especially the continued revelations of Sarah Palin's abuses of power in Alaska. But apparently, a quick review of the facts says otherwise. Believe it or not, even REPUBLICANS in Alaska were horrified enough by the abuse of power to call on investigations.
No matter how much "McMaverick McBush McCain" tries to spin away all his problems, they're all catching up to him & his running mate now. ;-)

Oh, jeez! As if the Interior Department sex for oil scandal were bad enough, it gets worse. Guess which Presidential Campaign has hired two lobbyists who work for two of the companies that have become enbroiled in this scandal? Oh yes, Mr. "I'm Not With Lobbyists" McMaverick McBush has employed two lobbyists who've worked for two companies that have traded sex for oil contracts.
Oh yes, McBush-Failin'... Bulls**t we can't believe in! ;-)
Today, the 20-month governor of Alaska said the following:
"And I championed reform to end the abuses of earmark spending by Congress. In fact, I told Congress -- I told Congress, 'Thanks, but no thanks,' on that bridge to nowhere. If our state wanted a bridge, I said we'd build it ourselves."
This is a misstatement:
She did not oppose the bridge to nowhere.
Here's what she told the Anchorage Daily News on October 22, 2006, late in the race for the governor's seat (via Nexis):
Would you continue state funding for the proposed Knik Arm and Gravina Island bridges?
"Yes. I would like to see Alaska's infrastructure projects built sooner rather than later. The window is now--while our congressional delegation is in a strong position to assist."
So she was very much for the bridge and insisted that Alaska had to act quickly-the party of Ted Stevens and Don Young might soon lose its majority, after all.
Uh oh! There goes Palin's "maverick" credentials! Well, she's following some great footsteps. I mean, hasn't her running mate John McBush done the same... On just about EVERYTHING??!!
Wow! So John McCain has really proven his "feminist" street cred by picking Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin to be his VP. Oh yes, and aren't they both such mavericks! McCain-Palin just smells like real change now, doesn't it?
Wait... Hold on. So we have some pesky facts to get in the way of a lovely corporate media narrative? Oh, darn!
Oh, yes. We have the facts. John McCain wants us to believe that he and Sarah Palin are "mavericks", but the truth is that they're both only using that word to hide the fact that they're Bush-Cheney clones.
Sen. John McCain's choice of Alaska governor Sarah Palin as his running mate is a cynical effort to appeal to disappointed Hillary Clinton voters and get them to vote, ultimately, against their own self-interest.
Gov. Palin may be the second woman vice-presidential candidate on a major party ticket, but she is not the right woman. Sadly, she is a woman who opposes women's rights, just like John McCain. [...]
In a gubernatorial debate, Palin stated emphatically that her opposition to abortion was so great, so total, that even if her teenage daughter was impregnated by a rapist, she would "choose life" -- meaning apparently that she would not permit her daughter to have an abortion.
Palin also had to withdraw her appointment of a top public safety commissioner who had been reprimanded for sexual harassment, although Palin had been warned about his background through letters by the sexual harassment complainant.
What McCain does not understand is that women supported Hillary Clinton not just because she was a woman, but because she was a champion on their issues. They will surely not find Sarah Palin to be an advocate for women.
Sarah Palin may occasionally dress in pantsuits like our progressive, feminist champion Hillary Clinton, but behind her Hillary-esque mask is just another Dick Cheney. Oh yes, and speaking of Dick Cheney... She's very anti-environment, just like Good Ol' Dick! All we need to do is listen to Sarah Palin's own words to determine how little she cares about our planet's and our people's future:
"When I look every day, the big oil company's building is right out there next to me, and it's quite a reminder that we should have mutually beneficial relationships with the oil industry."
"We have so much potential from tapping our resources here in Alaska. And we can do this with minimum environmental impact. We have a very pro-development president in President Bush, and yet he failed to push for opening up parts of Alaska to drilling through Congress -- and a Republican-controlled Congress, I might add."
"A changing environment will affect Alaska more than any other state, because of our location. I'm not one though who would attribute [global warming] to being man-made."
"I beg to disagree with any candidate who would say we can't drill our way out of our problem or that more supply won't ultimately affect prices. Of course it will affect prices."
Even though all the factssay otherwise, Sarah Palin would rather line the pockets of Big Oil than persue real energy solutions that respect our environment, provide more & better jobs for our people, and end our fossil fuel addiction that's been harming our national security. Sarah Plain refuses to recognize real science. She'd rather persue her own extremist ideology than promote real solutions.
But in addition to all these issue concerns with Palin, let's take something else into consideration. Can she handle the job of President if McCain couldn't. Is she ready for the job of Vice President?
Well, is she?
But you know what? McCain ultimately picked Palin as VP to distract us from the facts about McCain. He doesn't want to remember that McCain = Bush. Let's not allow the McCain-Palin illusion of "change" to make us forget that they are really more of the same old s--t that we've been suffering under for the last eight years. So really, do we want another four years of this crap? Or are we ready for real change?
