I haven't said this in a while, but I have to say this now. Matt Stoller is right on! I simply can't believe it.
In case you haven't heard the HUGE news already, Jared Polis will likely be the next member of Congress representing Colorado's 2nd District. And in case you didn't know, Jared Polis is openly gay. He's the first openly gay challenger to be elected to Congress.
As a gay person myself, this is BIG news. This is a major breakthrough for us LGBT people and another breaking down of the homophobic barriers holding back progress. If elected in November (which is highly likely, as CO-02 includes Boulder & tilts quite Democratic), Polis will be the 3rd open LGBT member of Congress along with Rep. Barney Frank (D-MA) & Rep. Tammy Baldwin (D-WI).
So please excuse me today if I seem extra happy... I'm just glad to see yet another advance for not just LGBT people, but for civil rights for all. :-)
