Lazy Sunday Open Thread

What's on your mind? Mine's running a million miles a minute now. Talk to me. I need to stop and catch my breath. ;-)

I'm going to try to write a diary on McCain tonight since I'll be leaving tomorrow morning. Tired, though. I've been cleaning my place all day long.

I went to a small local organizing meeting today. I was again struck how reluctant older volunteers are to use the internet. Almost all of these hard-working volunteers tend to be women. One volunteer wanted us to use her fax number to communicate with her. She didn't have an email address, gave us her daughter's email address, but asked us not to use it.

As a public librarian, I have coaxed hundreds of older library patrons to sit down and try. At almost 63, I am not inclined to humor or give up on people less than 10 years older than I am. I gently tease them, how would they have reacted if their parents refused to learn to use the phone.

Public libraries have had great success pairing senior computer beginners with middle school tutors. I wonder if local Obama campaigns should consider doing that. Should I call that woman, invite her for coffee, and at least get her a yahoo or gmail address? She has a computer; that's not the problem. Or should we just keep using her daughter's email address until the daughter get annoyed enough to insist her mom learn to email?

Tell you what's on my mind? I fear that my mind is a vast empty wasteland with howling winds blowing dust about. You could film a spaghetti western in there.
