"GOProud"? Really?
Gimme a f*ckin' break!
So they think the answer to LCR's identity crisis is to be even more self-loathing? What's "liberal" about protecting our community from hate crimes? Or allowing women to make their own health care decisions? Or using diplomacy in our foreign policy? May gawd, they just don't get it. If common sense is "liberal", then I guess we're all raving "socialists". If they really think Bush-style lunacy is what defines "gay conservative", then they can go ahead & fall off that cliff with the rest of their failed party.
It's been threatened to go down, and now reality: Conservative gays are splitting from the Log Cabin Republicans, furious with the organization's internal sniping and overall lack of influence as it lost ground in even the most basic of gay news cycles. The new org is GOProud, classified as a 527 and headed by former Log Cabin political director Christopher Barron, and will likely have zero connection with influential (and wealthy) Democratic fundraiser and "gay mafia" member Tim Gill, who was outed as one of Log Cabin's biggest donors. (Were it not for his cash, it could be argued, Log Cabin would exist in name only right now.)
Expect GOProud to return to Log Cabin's more conservative roots, which means less support for hate crimes legislation. Notes GayPatriot.net, which advocated splitting from LCR: "Their left-of-center positions on important issues have bothered me as LCR has continually sucked the teet of the Gay Leftist agenda. LCR’s silence and unwillingness to stand up and be vocal on true gay conservative issues (outing of Republican staffers, increasing threat of gays being selectively aborted, peril gays face by Islamic extremists) has been mind-boggling. And LCR’s continued obsession in trashing Republicans, yet letting Democrats get a pass on their gay-related hypocrisies, has been infruriating [sic]."
So they think the answer to LCR's identity crisis is to be even more self-loathing? What's "liberal" about protecting our community from hate crimes? Or allowing women to make their own health care decisions? Or using diplomacy in our foreign policy? May gawd, they just don't get it. How Nevada's Republican Governor "Respects the Sanctity of Marriage"
Visit msnbc.com for Breaking News, World News, and News about the Economy
Yes, that's all for real. So how come the radical right screams about how loving gay & lesbian couples threaten other people's committed relationships but never complains about this? Just wonderin'...
UPDATE: There will be a committee vote in the Nevada Senate on SB 283, the domestic partnership bill. If you're in The Silver State, please call or email your legislator in support of SB 283!

I'm Sorry, Rush! I Really Am, Your Majesty!
This is so fun it can become addicting! Look at the apology to El Rushbo that I just "uncovered"!
Come on, now. You know you want to try it yourself. ;-)
Dear Rush,
I’m so sorry that I called you an opportunistic brick thrower. My comments were inarticulate. What I meant to say is that you are thought provoking. Yeah, sometimes I say words that I’m not thinking. Everyone knows we Republicans like to say one thing and do another, right?
You and I both know that in reality, you simply want President Obama to fail in this time of economic collapse. How can I disagree with that? Please accept my sincere apologies, oh great leader of the Republican Party. Can’t wait to be on your show soon! XOXO
Sincerely,
Republican Congressman Phil Gingrey
P.S. Please forgive me so I can be your BFF forever again! You know you're my first love, Dear Leader. Oh, and this is a manly kind of love... I'd never suggest you were homosexual. How dare the info- babes not want to date you!
Come on, now. You know you want to try it yourself. ;-)

The Oscars: Best & Worst
(Originally posted at The Liberal OC. Image courtesy of The New York Times.)
OK, you can thank me for watching The Academy Awards (with TalkLeft) so you didn't have to. Here are my thoughts on what happened last night:
1. May we now just refer to 2008 as "The Year of Slumdog Millionaire"? I mean it. Barack Obama was elected President in "The Year of Slumdog Millionaire". The Olympics were held in Beijing in "The Year of Slumdog Millionaire". Orange County had a wild year during "The Year of Slumdog Millionaire".
2. Fortunately, The Academy did give some love to "Milk". It's really about time Hollywood recognizes that LGBT people are more than just stage props. Queer history is American history, too.
3. Why the hell was "Frost/Nixon" denied any award? This is also an important part of American history. And hey, this may be the best movie Ron Howard has ever directed. So why are they going home empty handed?
4. Is Hugh Jackman hot or is Hugh Jackman hot?
5. While he didn't completely fall on his face last night, 538.com's famous Nate Silver was just a little "pwned". Sometimes, computer simulations can't accurately foretell what can be very emotional decisions.
So what were your favorite moments from Oscar? What didn't you like? Let's talk Oscar this morning. ;-)

All You Really Need to Know...
About "bipartisanship"...
Well, at least Balloon Juice gets it. And yes, I'm back... ;-)
I really don’t understand how bipartisanship is ever going to work when one of the parties is insane. Imagine trying to negotiate an agreement on dinner plans with your date, and you suggest Italian and she states her preference would be a meal of tire rims and anthrax. If you can figure out a way to split the difference there and find a meal you will both enjoy, you can probably figure out how bipartisanship is going to work the next few years.

Finally! Payback for Obstructionism!
This is the new ad in support of President Obama's stimulus plan about to be broadcast nationwide. And really, it's about time that our side starts applying pressure and stops allowing The Bush Party (aka Rethuglicans) to keep framing the debate on economic recovery. After all, the American people just voted for Democrats to take this nation in a new direction of balanced, sensible, Keynesian, progressive economics. So really, Dem leaders in DC need to stop being afraid of what the big, bad corporate media villagers will say and tell them & their GOP buddies who's in charge now!

The Pride of Orange County
Oh, my! Everyone's talking about the first shot in what should be a fascinating 2010 Senate campaign in California! It's just too bad for Orange County's favorite radical right legislator that people are laughing at the video, not along with the video.
Charles Lemos is having a good laugh about the Chuck DeVore for Senate campaign at MyDD. Sometimes, I still can't believe my original hometown is known for producing so many batsh*t crazy politicians.

GOP Still in Blago-Rezko-Ayers Fantasyland
Even though President-Elect Obama had nothing to do with IL Gov. Blagojevich's "pay to play" scandals, that isn't stopping the Republican Party from insinuating that he was involved. Are they that desperate? They really have nothing else to say?
I guess not. And if this is a sign of what's to come in 2010 & 2012, then Democrats are in good shape for the next coming elections.

Hooray for Herbert Hoover!
Hoover lives! How wonderful that the GOP pols hold fast to their "values" of killing the economy by sitting on their hands & doing nothing. Are they aiming to make this recession into a depression?

Yes, Bush Completely F*cked Up
Admit it, Republicans! He didn't "keep us safe". He didn't "help our economy". He only misled us into war, kept us in needless occupation, brought back The Gilded Age, and nearly destroyed our Constitution.
So yes, Bush is a complete f*ck-up. And yes, President-Elect Obama has a real challenge in cleaning up his mess.

Whoops...
Nevada Rethuglicans look to be in a tailspin! Their one possibly legitimate challenger to Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid looks like he's about to be indicted for mishandling state college savings funds. And they want to complain about supposed "Democratic corruption"? What about the rot plaguing their own house?
Haha. Give 'em hell, Harry. ;-)

Weekly Strategy Session: If They Won't, We Will!
OK, everyone! Ready for this week's strategy session? I am! We need to talk. Seriously.
Unfortunately, many of our Senators decided to ignore us & let "Traitor Joe" Lieberman off the hook. He keeps his dear Homeland Security Committee chair and he only loses one Environment subcommittee chair. After working aggressively AGAINST Democrats, he only gets a weak slap on the wrist and a meaningless "condemnation" from real Democrats.
Is this for real? REALLY??!! Did Traitor Joe just get away with almost murdering the Democratic Party?
I don't know about you, but I'm furious! Even my own Senators in my reliably Blue State couldn't muster the courage and the decency to hold Traitor Joe accountable for elliing out his integrity and our party for his additional 15 minutes of infamy with his beloved Johnny Mac. How could they? How could the Senators that we elected cave into Traitor Joe?
It's not like he actually does his job. On the Homeland Security Committee, he's never held one investigation into the botched response to Hurricane Katrina or our continued national security challenges. He's always caved into Republicans in agreeing to confirm radical right judges who consistently oppose civil rights, workers' rights, and environmental protections. He always runs to the corporate media to bash real Democrats and bad-mouth our now President-Elect. So again, why are Democrats rewarding Traitor Joe for failing all of us?
If they won't do what's best for our party and our country, then we must. It's time for us to hold "Traitor Joe" accountable. The aforementioned (as in linked) petition to start a campaign to unseat Traitor Joe in 2012 looks like a good start. But what else can we do? That's where I need your help!
What can we do in the coming months to not just defeat Traitor Joe Lieberman, but really hold accountable all those politicians that break their promises to us before actively working against us? Let's talk about it. And once we have a plan of action, let's make it happen!

And Now, The 2010 Election!
You think it's too soon? Think again! We have ourselves more vulnerable Republican incumbents... Including a Senator in Florida! (via MyDD)
Florida Gov. Charlie Crist remains overwhelmingly popular with a 68 - 18 percent job approval rating that makes him a strong favorite for re-election in 2010, but Sen. Mel Martinez's 42 - 33 percent approval rating makes him much more vulnerable, according to a Quinnipiac University poll released today.
[...]
Although Sen. Martinez gets a somewhat favorable job approval rating, only 36 percent of voters say he deserves another term, while 38 percent say no and 26 percent say they are not sure. If the election were today, 36 percent say they would vote for Martinez while 40 percent would support his unnamed Democratic opponent and 24 percent are undecided.
As soon as we have a candidate in Florida, it might be a good idea for us to invest in this campaign. Hey, why don't we want another Democratic Senator from The Sunshine State? ;-)

The Diva Drama Continues
The comedy just doesn't end. Hilarious! And this is who so many wacko fundie wingnuts want to be the Rethuglican Presidential Nominee in 2012?
If only more in the GOP really knew how to say "Thanks, but no thanks." But hey, I guess they'd rather give us the the comical gift that keeps on giving! :-D
