West Virginia is not impossible

Research 2000/Daily Kos publishes this afternoon new polling data from West Virginia:

McCain 49
Obama 43

Markos comments:
There is a huge registration advantage with Democrats in the state, but they are of the Dixiecrat variety -- Obama wins Democrats just 68-24, while losing Independents 50-40. Yet despite those disadvantages, he trails McCain by only six and keeps him under 50 percent.
In 2004, I drove three times a week for three months out to the Eastern Panhandle of West Virginia in an effort to turn West Virginia blue for Kerry. I have spent a lot of time there for work. I know its people pretty well, and I have a deep interest in the state.
