CNN is reporting that Colin Powell, the former Joint Chief of Staff who oversaw Desert Storm under the first George Bush, the former Secretary of State under the second George Bush, someone once thought a likely Republican nominee for president, and someone who McCain reportedly considered as his own vice presidential pick, has endorsed Barack Obama for president. CNN describes Powell's endorsement on NBC's "Face the Nation" this morning. Powell said about Obama:
He has both style and substance. I think he is a transformational figure . . . .
Obama displayed a steadiness. Showed intellectual vigor. He has a definitive way of doing business that will do us well.
Based on my shared aspirations with the Secretary that Barack Obama needs to be the 44th president of the United States, I have dropped a thousand dollars into Obama's kitty just now.
